Inventory Valuation

I need a plan to do a one-time book valuation of an inventory. This is for purposes of an acquistion, and I have no information on how good or bad the existing inventory is. The inventory appears to follow a fairly typical distribution--50% of book value is in 5% of part numbers, 80% of book value is in about 19% of book value. I have to know if the value is -5% of book or more (I don't mind if its more--the purchase price can be adjusted down, but not up!). Will your software supply a plan for this? Any references to doing this sort of inventory valuation? Thanks, Peter Rose
