USAGE: I am aware that the US Internal Revenue Service uses sampling (but NOT dollar unit sampling) to audit the tax-related records of corporations, and charges (or refunds) them for errors based on projected population amounts.

Many states, including my state of Minnesota, also use sampling to audit corporate documents related to sales-taxes paid and use-taxes paid. Companies are charged for overpayment or refunded underpayment of taxes based on projected population amounts.

If you work for a very large company, your tax department can probably provide you war-stories about this.
