I am attempting to establish sampling plans and methods for a new factory and as a part of this the sample size must be determined. In the past the company has basically just taken orderly samples from each postition on the line and assumed they are representative of the entire line. This does not sit well with the engineering in me and I would like to develop a method with statistical relavence. I have determined our process variance (and standard deviation with control limits, but have been unable to find good references for establishing sample sizes for processes to ensure they are in fact representative. Thanks for any assistance with this matter.

Data: Objects produced per week per line: 1750 Mean: 101.72 Variance: 0.0901 Standard Deviation: 0.300

Any other information that may be required, please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,

Geoffrey M. Stoltz
