I had another thought about implementing plans on the line. It might be easier for you to implement a sampling plan for variables as an acceptance chart. You draw the lower and upper decision limits of the sampling plan on a chart. The acceptance chart will look like an Xbar chart. You could use software program TP414 to calculate the limits for acceptance charts directly from points on the oc curve -- thus being statistically valid. The requirements can be for the mean or for individual specification limits. With TP414, you can choose any alpha risk and beta risk that you consider appropriate. Geoffrey, you mentioned positions on the line versus the entire line. Could you please elaborate on this? I can't visualize how a line is laid out.
