If the main sources of variability occur between batches instead of within batch, then I think it makes a lot of sense to accept/reject batches. If you manufacture the batches, you might even be able to make the accept/reject decisions before it is too late to rework/adjust the batch properties. If these are batches of liquid or powder that go into making the corrugated cases, you will probably consider sampling for the mean. You could use either fixed-n or sequential sampling.
