1) Using the software program TP105, (www.samplingplans.com/software_oc.htm) for AQL=.015, RQL=.050, alpha=.05, and beta=.10,

n=210, Ac=6, AOQL=0.01782 @ p'=0.02462 (Prior to the lot size correction.)

2) Using TP105, for n=50, Ac=3, alpha=0.05, beta=0.10:

AQL=0.027785, RQL=0.128756, AOQL=0.03894 @ p'=0.05555 (Prior to the lot size correction.)

There are formulas and tables in most texts on sampling that use the poisson approximation to the binomial. The easiest method is to use the nomograph of the binomial distribution. You just start with (n,Ac) or with (Alpha, Beta, AQL, RQL), draw two lines and you have the answer. If you don't have a copy, send me your fax number and I will fax you one.

The program TP105 has the advantage of speed, accuracy, printed output, sequential sampling plans, performance curves (OC, AOQ, ARL, ASN) and confidence limits on sample results. Of course you can't take it to the CQE exam.

Good luck on the exam.
