Good day Stan, We are using MIL-STD 105E for sampling inspection. As you know, this sampling plan has a very 'unique' way of defining the sample size. You need to determine the lot size and inspection level to obtain for a sample size (n). Example, recently we had a shipment of 12,000 pieces of garments that was audited at AQL 2.5 (or p=0.025), n=315, c=14.Goods passed audit with 9 pieces of defect found and shipment was released. When the consignment reached the buyer, they conducted another audit. They use the same AQL 2.5 but picked a smaller sample size, n=80 with c=5. They found 10 pieces of defective garments and lodge a claim. My question here is, can a producer and a consumer use different sample size to conduct an audit even though the lot size is the same. Is it fair to the producer when the consumer reduces the sample size and reject a shipment? What went wrong and where is the flaw?
