No, sampling inspection is not obsolete. There is increasingly little new that can be added to what has already been developed. The same is actually true of SPC as well, but the subject continues to draw attention, first, because it should as a means to prevent poor quality and, second, because all sorts of scenarios and measures can be invented for study.
